Artist Spotlight - Pip Marsh

Introducing Pip Marsh as our next artist spotlight. Pip is an alt-country artist, making waves on the scene with his emotional and evocative lyrics and melodies. With a strong stage presence and an ever-growing list of opportunities and achievements, Pip’s progression as a rising artist is impressive. Read on to find out more about Pip, his music, and everything in between.

Thanks for chatting with us Pip! How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before?

“I’d call it ‘Y’allternative.’ It’s for anyone who grew up listening to emo and alternative music but also loves country. It’s a mix of emo and redneck vibes.’

We love that - we’re huge advocates of the fact that Country isn’t just one set genre/sound… We’d love to know more about your journey into the Country Music Genre.

“I’ve always had a wide range of musical influences. I grew up on Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crüe, and Black Sabbath, which naturally led me to alternative bands like Blink-182 in my teenage years. But I also had a neighbor who was my mum’s hairdresser, and their house was filled with country music and John Wayne movies.

I remember being captivated by the vibes and instrumentation/vocals in country music. Kenny Rogers’ “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town” played constantly, and it really stuck with me. That sparked my own exploration, leading me to artists like Tim McGraw especially his collaboration with Nelly on “Over and Over” and Kenny Chesney, whose songs felt so real, yet also showed his rebellious side. Those early experiences shaped the artist I am today.”

And what is the creative process behind your music? You have some great early influences, but how does the magic happen?

“It all starts with the vibe in the studio. Whether I’m working with Andy Shaw or Jack Wilson, we begin by capturing the mood. From there, we experiment with melodies, vibe a concept, or dive into my running list of titles and phrases in my endless phone notes folder. Once the song is written, we shift focus to the rest of the production and bring it all together.”

You have already got some great achievements under your belt, with your single ‘Happy’ being debuted on BBC Radio 1’s Future Alternative playlist just being one of them, but what would you say has been a highlight of your career so far?

“I’ve been lucky to have some incredible moments over the years, but as a solo artist, writing and performing the music I’ve always wanted to make, a standout highlight has been going on tour with LAKEVIEW. It was an amazing experience — not only did I gain lifelong brothers, but it also opened so many doors for me. I’m incredibly grateful.”

It looked like an incredible tour too! Speaking of other artists, is there a particular artist that you’d love to collaborate with?

“Hardy is definitely at the top of my list, along with Jelly Roll and Redferrin. There are so many incredible artists out there. And of course, LAKEVIEW — I’ll actually be writing with them in Nashville soon, so that’s already a dream coming true.”

That’s so exciting! Looking forward to seeing the product of that creativity… Let’s talk Roadhouse. You’ve just played a Roadhouse Unplugged: Manchester show, and will also be performing at the Roadhouse Weekender in July…
“I’m beyond excited! It’s an honor to be part of the very first Roadhouse Weekender. I can’t wait to bring some Y’allternative vibes to the field and share those emo redneck sounds with everyone.”

The closer July gets the more pumped we get, it’s infectious! Now obviously, it’s not easy for artists starting out, and sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming if you’re trying to get somewhere with your music - what advice do you have for an artist who’s looking to branch into the Country Genre but aren’t sure it’s right for them?

“I’d say, just write what feels authentic to you. Don’t try to fake it or be someone you’re not. Authenticity is key, especially in country music — listeners can tell if it’s not genuine. Create what you love, be yourself, and enjoy the process.”

Is there anything you think our readers should know?

“I’m currently in Nashville working with some incredible people, which still feels surreal. If you follow my socials, you’ll see more about what’s happening while I’m here. There’s so much in the works, including plenty of new music—stay tuned!”

You can catch Pip at the Roadhouse Weekender 2025, 4th-6th July in Bodiam Sussex. Pip has also JUST released a new single titled ‘Clumsy’, TODAY! Click here to check out Pip’s socials.
